“Tragic Assault: Bandits Ambush Police Convoy in Katsina, Claiming Two Officers’ Lives”



Two law enforcement officers have lost their lives after suspected armed robbers assaulted a police convoy in Katsina State and made off with their duty weapons.

As per a post on X by security expert, Zagazola Makama, police sources revealed that the event transpired around 5:50 p.m. on April 7, 2026, in Sabon Garin Garu village within the Musawa Local Government Area of the state.

The assailants, reported to be numerous and traveling on approximately 30 motorcycles, were allegedly associated with a well-known bandit leader by the name of Muhammadu.

It was noted that the robbers ambushed a vehicle transporting five members of the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF) who were journeying from Zamfara State through Katsina State.

A swift reaction by police tactical units, encompassing patrol squads and local watch groups, resulted in a gunfight with the assailants, compelling them to retreat.

Three of the officers were rescued without injury during the confrontation.

However, two officers tragically perished in the assault. They were identified as Sgt. Bilyaminu Babangida and PC Abdulaziz Musa.

The attackers also seized the officers’ duty rifles and a riot gunner.

Police reinforcements from Dutsinma, Kankia, Matazu, and Kankara were subsequently dispatched to close off escape routes, while ongoing cordon-and-search operations are being carried out to locate the suspects and retrieve the stolen firearms.

According to security forces, efforts have been amplified to restore peace in the region and avert additional assaults along the corridor.
