Tragedy Strikes in Katsina: Market Dispute Escalates to Deadly Violence



A conflict between two merchants at a local marketplace in Kokami, Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulted in the demise of one individual, while another was attacked by furious locals.

In a message posted on X by security expert Zagazola Makama, the occurrence transpired around 4:00 p.m. on April 4, 2026, after a disagreement among the traders escalated into altercation.

Security sources indicated that the confrontation culminated in the fatality of one individual involved.

Consequently, it was reported that residents took the law into their own hands, assaulting the second merchant. He was beaten to death, and his remains were then set on fire.

“Subsequent to the incident, furious villagers allegedly mobbed and lynched the second trader, igniting his remains,” Makama stated.

Security sources informed Makama that the incident unfolded around 4:00 p.m. on April 4, 2026, when a dispute among the traders transitioned into violence, resulting in the death of one participant.

Troops from the Forward Operating Base in Malumfashi were subsequently dispatched to the region to restore tranquility and avert any further breakdown of law and order.

Their involvement stabilized the situation, with normality progressively returning to the community.

“Troops from Forward Operating Base Malumfashi were later sent to the location to reinstate order and prevent any additional breakdown of law and order in the locality,” the source remarked.

Security forces have since maintained a presence in the vicinity to reassure residents and deter any kind of retaliation.

Authorities affirmed that the situation is managed, while continuous monitoring is active in the affected area.
