Nasarawa Command Celebrates National Police Day with Engaging Walk and Awareness Drive

The Nasarawa State Police Command has amplified community engagement initiatives as part of events commemorating National Police Day 2026, concentrating on enhancing public confidence and fostering social accountability.

On March 31, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, spearheaded officers and personnel of the command on a 13-kilometre march through significant pathways in Lafia, the state capital.

This exercise, which also included members of the Federal Road Safety Corps and representatives from Premium Trust Bank, created a platform for direct interaction between security forces and community members.

Police officials indicated that the endeavor was intended to nurture closer relationships with the public while promoting collaboration in addressing security issues.

The activities proceeded on April 1 with a community awareness campaign at Yahaya Sabo Motor Park and various motor parks throughout the state.

During the outreach, officers interacted with commuters, drivers, and participants from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) regarding matters impacting peace, safety, and community development.

In addressing the attendees, the police emphasized the importance of shared accountability in confronting social issues. They warned against reckless driving, pointing out that preventable road incidents persist in taking lives.

The command also cautioned against electoral violence and ballot theft, labeling both as dangers to democratic practices. Residents were encouraged to maintain peaceful behavior during elections.

Other topics underscored during the campaign included the perils of gambling addiction, cult activities, human trafficking, substance abuse, and cybercrime, which the police stated have extensive repercussions on individuals and society.

“Youth must disavow criminal inclinations and pursue education, skill development, and legal sources of income,” the police asserted during the interaction.

The command reiterated that ensuring safety is a communal duty, urging residents to persist in supporting law enforcement agencies in upholding peace and order throughout the state.
