Lagos Launches Exciting 2026 Promotion Drive for Civil Servants!

The Lagos State Administration has initiated its promotion initiative for 2026, aimed at civil employees and staff in its parastatals and agencies.

This advancement was revealed through the state government’s official X account, indicating that the initiative encompasses personnel on Grade Levels 01–05 within the core civil service and those on Grade Levels 01–16 in parastatal entities.

As part of this procedure, officers on Grade Levels 01–05 in the mainstream sector and Grade Levels 01–10 in parastatals are engaging in the Revised Structured Training Programme, RSTP, while those at Grade Levels 12–16 within parastatal organizations are participating in the Structured Evaluation Assessment Programme, SEAP.

SEAP is being implemented for the first time as a formal criterion for senior promotions, including written assessments and computer-based examinations, in line with the state’s efforts to establish a merit-based system.

According to officials, this initiative aims to guarantee that career progression is based on ability, performance, and professional advancement, aligning with the government’s extensive reform agenda.

The initiative is presently occurring at the Public Service Staff Development Centre in Magodo and the Women Development Centre in Agege.

A total of 388 officers are engaging in the SEAP, while 4,870 officers are participating in the structured training programme.

The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, who oversaw the proceedings commented on the orderly conduct of participants and the organization at the centres. He urged officers to stay dedicated throughout the process, encouraging them to “approach this undertaking with commitment and a solid sense of accountability.”

Ayantayo emphasized that the introduction of SEAP would guarantee that promotions are grounded on demonstrable knowledge, skills, and capabilities, while also enhancing the competence of the public workforce.

The Permanent Secretary, Olubusola Abidakun, also shared his views, expressing satisfaction with the organizational level and readiness, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to maintain reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and productivity within the civil service.

The promotion initiative is anticipated to extend through the week and into the subsequent week, with various sessions aimed at equipping officers for elevated responsibilities.

In accordance with civil service regulations, promotion committees will evaluate eligible candidates, while officers who are unsuccessful retain the right to appeal within a designated timeframe.
