The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its campaign against motorcycle larceny, detaining suspects in various operations while recovering stolen bikes from different regions of the state.
This update was revealed in a communiqué released on April 26, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi K. Jimoh.
The communiqué indicated that the arrests were the result of intelligence-driven operations conducted by multiple police divisions, focusing on theft syndicates suspected to be active in significant areas.
During one of the operations, agents from Funbi-Fagun Division apprehended a suspect named Joseph James in the early hours of April 9, as he attempted to transport a stolen motorcycle out of Ondo town.
Authorities reported that the black Boxer motorcycle, allegedly stolen the previous day, was recovered during this operation.
“The suspect was apprehended around 0430hrs while trying to move the stolen motorcycle. He has provided valuable information, and efforts are underway to capture his accomplice,” the communiqué stated.
In another occurrence on April 22, 2026, another suspect, Raji Akeem, was taken into custody in the Shasha area of Akure after reportedly stealing a motorcycle from a local resident.
Authorities stated that the suspect was caught while attempting to dispose of the bike, adding that he is currently receiving medical care after being assaulted by a mob before police intervention.
The recovered motorcycle has been secured, and investigations are ongoing to identify other persons associated with the matter.
Meanwhile, operatives from the Enu Owa Division also achieved a breakthrough in a prior case from October 2025, resulting in the capture of Adedigba Adeola.
He was accused of tricking a commercial motorcyclist under the pretense of needing a ride before absconding with the victim’s motorcycle.
According to the police, the suspect later admitted to the offense, revealing that he concealed the motorcycle before selling it to someone else.
“The suspect confessed to being the main perpetrator and provided specifics regarding how the motorcycle was hidden and subsequently sold,” the command reported.
Authorities mentioned that efforts are underway to recover the stolen motorcycle and apprehend additional suspects connected to the transaction.
In response to the operations, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, praised the officers for their swift and coordinated actions, emphasizing that the command remains dedicated to dismantling criminal networks.
The command also encouraged residents to stay alert and report suspicious behaviors, highlighting that community collaboration is essential in addressing crime.
