“Transforming Crime Response: Police Dismantle Tactical Teams for Innovative New Unit”

The Rivers State Police Command has declared the disbandment of all tactical groups functioning within the command, as part of a wider reform aimed at enhancing professionalism, operational effectiveness, and public confidence in policing.

This action follows an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

As part of the reorganization, all former tactical divisions have been combined into a single specialized entity known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The newly formed unit is anticipated to deliver a more coordinated and prompt reaction to incidents of violent crime throughout the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the command clarified that the VCRU has been assigned the responsibility of responding quickly and effectively to criminal threats while rigorously adhering to established engagement protocols and respecting fundamental human rights.

The command also issued a firm warning against misconduct, which includes extortion and misuse of authority, emphasizing that officers found guilty of breaching the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional standards will face disciplinary action.

Reassuring citizens, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and unprofessional behavior.

The statement concluded, “The Rivers State Police Command remains unwavering in its mission to provide effective, accountable, and community-focused policing.”
