“Police Strike Back: Vandals Caught and N400m Worth of Railway Treasures Reclaimed!”



The Nigeria Police Force stated that it has, through the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, FID-STS, apprehended individuals involved in extensive destruction of vital national infrastructure.

The police additionally reported recovering vandalized railway materials worth over N400 million.

The individuals, Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22, were detained on 9th April 2026 at approximately 1800hrs in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following reliable intelligence.

A statement endorsed by DCP Anthony Okonkwo Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, indicated that the operation resulted in the interception of a trailer truck carrying roughly sixty tonnes of damaged railway tracks and sleepers.

“The materials were masked under bags of groundnut shells in a calculated effort to avoid detection while being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State,” the statement remarked.

It indicated that initial inquiries disclosed that the driver of the truck was engaged for the amount of N2.5 million to transport the damaged materials, while further discoveries reveal an organized supply chain connected to recipients of such pilfered infrastructure.

During the investigation, the Police mentioned that operatives participating in the operation reportedly turned down a N100 million bribe made in an attempt to compromise the process and secure the suspects’ release along with the evidence.

The trailer truck utilized for transporting the items has been retrieved, and investigations are in progress to apprehend additional members of the syndicate, including the intended recipients, and to recover more evidence.

The statement concluded that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the operatives for their bravery, discipline, and integrity, highlighting that such actions embody the fundamental values of the Force.
