
The Nigerian Army has detained more than 20 alleged terrorists and other purported criminals in a synchronized countrywide operation over the past 24 hours in its intensified effort against insurgent activities.
In an operational update shared on Sunday at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja, it disclosed that the detentions were executed during intelligence-driven offensives carried out in partnership with other security services and local vigilantes, focusing on terrorist hideouts, kidnapping groups, and criminal networks active in several regions.
The report indicated that in Kogi State, the 12 Brigade troops, alongside the Nigerian Police and vigilantes, executed offensive operations in Kakuma Ileteju/Origa and Ijumu villages, resulting in the capture of 2 alleged terrorists and the recovery of two motorcycles and two chainsaw machines.
In a similar vein, it mentioned that troops of Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA detained an alleged terrorist in Afaka, Kaduna State, who admitted to leaving a terrorist camp due to disputes among terrorist leaders.
The report stated, “In Sokoto State, troops of COAS Intervention Battalion VII with the 8 Division Nigerian Army Stalkers cleared several villages in Tangaza Local Government Area, dismantling a terrorist camp and retrieving two camouflage pants.”
It also noted that troops rescued a Nigerien national who had been held captive for over three weeks, emphasizing the cross-border nature of terrorist operations in Niger State, and mentioned that the troops neutralized threats by disposing of one IED, detaining five suspects, and demolishing terrorist camps and illegal mining sites.
Additional operations led to the rescue of two kidnapped farmers, and in Delta State, troops apprehended a suspected IPOB terrorist at Umunede Junction.
In Rivers State, troops discovered and dismantled illegal bunkering setups. Recovered items include four galvanized pipes (approximately 50m), four hoses (about 100m each), one large empty reservoir, one large drum oven, two large empty receivers, one large coolant, one medium drum oven, and three small coolants.
Others include one small active drum oven containing roughly 50 liters of AGO, one small empty drum oven, two empty drum receivers, one galvanized pipe (about 15m), two hoses (approximately 50m each), one receiver, one coolant, and one waste pit.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE intercepted criminal elements, detaining nine suspects and recovering one SMG rifle, one homemade revolver rifle, one pistol, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and N35,500.
Additionally, troops in Abia State uncovered and dealt with sacks of allegedly stolen crude oil concealed within the Imo River vicinity in accordance with operational guidelines.
