“Operation Capture: Troops Nab Alleged Gunrunners and Seize Cache of Ammunition in Taraba”



Personnel from the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have apprehended two alleged arms traffickers and seized a substantial stockpile of ammunition in Taraba State.

The apprehension, as reported by the brigade, occurred on Thursday, during a standard stop-and-search operation executed by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base, FOB, in Wukari, along the Wukari–Ikyaior route in the local government area of Wukari.

As per the statement, the suspects were halted while on a motorcycle.

“They have been identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, hailing from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a resident of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State,” the army reported.

Signed by the Brigade’s acting spokesperson, Lt Umar Mohammad, a search carried out on the suspects led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additional items retrieved include N29,200 in cash, two mobile devices, ATM cards, charms, personal effects, and the motorcycle utilized for transporting the materials.

The suspects, along with the recovered evidence, the army stated, are presently in custody as inquiries continue to ascertain the origin and intended purpose of the ammunition.

In response to the situation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their alertness and prompt action.

He remarked that the operation aligns with the directives from the Chief of Army Staff to eradicate criminal elements and enhance safety throughout Taraba State.

The commander encouraged the troops to maintain the momentum of operations and stay dedicated to eliminating all forms of crime in the state.

He also assured law-abiding citizens of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to security forces.

Brigadier General Akaliro further underscored the Army’s dedication to recognizing professionalism and valor among its members, noting that officers and soldiers who excel in their duties will be appropriately acknowledged.
