The Nigerian military has achieved a number of operational victories in Enugu State, which include the retrieval of an improvised explosive device, IED, N2 million believed to be ransom earnings, a firearm, and the detention of a suspected abductor.
These operations were executed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army under the 82 Division as part of Operation UDO KA, based on an operational update received in Abuja on Tuesday.
In one of the missions, troops from the 82 Division Garrison, in collaboration with the 103 Battalion and the Air Component, undertook clearance operations in Ajali Forest, situated in Ezeagu Local Government Area. The endeavor aimed at disrupting hideouts associated with the banned Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network.
During the mission, an anti-tank improvised explosive device was found along the route.
The report indicated that the device was safely extracted and relocated by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team following three unsuccessful detonation attempts.
The troops also persisted with clearance initiatives within the forest, using heavy machinery such as bulldozers and chainsaws to dismantle camps and limit the movement of criminal elements.
In another operation at Adani in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, the troops acted based on intelligence linking ransom transfers from a kidnapping event to a specific site near their deployment.
The report mentioned that the funds were electronically traced, leading to prompt action by the troops, who captured a suspect’s sibling at the designated location.
Subsequent searches resulted in the retrieval of a pump-action rifle and N2 million in cash from the suspect’s residence.
The detained individual, along with the seized items, has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further inquiry and potential prosecution.
The military emphasized that all operations were conducted successfully without any casualties or incidents.
