Several Barcelona and Atletico Madrid athletes have responded following both teams’ UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg clash.
Barcelona triumphed over Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the contest at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Tuesday.
Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres netted for the Blaugrana, whereas Ademola Lookman scored for Diego Simeone’s squad.
However, it was Atletico that advanced to the Champions League semi-final round with a 3-2 aggregate victory, having secured a 2-0 win in the first leg at Camp Nou the previous week.
In reaction, Atletico Madrid captain Koke stated to Movistar+: “We are extremely excited, eliminating a team of Barça’s caliber. We faced difficulties at the start, but the team persevered. The effort was tremendous, and we are rightful victors of the matchup.”
In a similar vein, Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann, remarked: “I’m really glad. Two errors can have severe consequences in matches like this. I lost possession on the second [goal] – I was out of place. Ultimately, thanks to our supporters and our skill, we managed to find the net.”
Also sharing his thoughts, Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, stated: “We played a very good game. We gave everything we had. I feel that fortune wasn’t in our favor. We’re evolving, and we possess a young, skilled team that can aim for everything. We’re going to continue moving forward like this.”
For his part, Atletico Madrid standout Ademola Lookman, told TNT Sports: “Falling behind 2-0 [was challenging]. A match of two halves, indeed; we held our ground and persisted. We didn’t secure the victory tonight, but we’re through to the semi-finals.”
