“Rivers Revamps Safety: Police Dismantle Tactical Teams for Innovative Crime Response Unit”

The Rivers State Police Command has declared the disbandment of all tactical teams functioning under the command, as part of an extensive reform aimed at enhancing professionalism, operational effectiveness, and community confidence in law enforcement.

This action follows an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In the course of the reorganization, all previously established tactical units have been consolidated into a singular specialized entity referred to as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The newly formed unit is anticipated to offer a more synchronized and prompt reaction to events of violent crime throughout the state.

In a proclamation made by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the command clarified that the VCRU has been assigned the responsibility of responding swiftly and firmly to criminal threats, while rigorously adhering to established protocols of engagement and protecting fundamental human rights.

The command also issued a serious admonition against misconduct, such as extortion and misuse of power, emphasizing that officers found guilty of breaching the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional standards will be subjected to disciplinary actions.

Reassuring the public, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and urged community members to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities and unprofessional behavior.

The statement concluded, “The Rivers State Police Command remains steadfast in its mission to provide efficient, accountable, and community-focused policing.”
