
The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old individual, Mallami Abubakar, concerning alleged involvement in banditry-related activities.
The apprehension took place on April 1, 2026, at approximately 0800 hours, during a collaborative patrol involving police personnel, the National Forest Guards, and members of the Kaiama Vigilante Group in the Nanu vicinity of Kaiama Local Government Area.
As per a statement released on April 4, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the accused, who originates from Isanlu Dankuturu in Kogi State, was halted during a standard patrol along that corridor.
Initial investigations revealed, as articulated by the Command, that the suspect was allegedly contacted on March 30 by an acquaintance known simply as Babi, reported to be from Babana village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The announcement indicated that the suspect was allegedly invited to travel to Farinsuni via Baruten Local Government Area, with the intention of joining a faction believed to be connected with ISWAP/Lakurawa prior to his capture.
Confirming the situation, the Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi stated that the apprehension reflects ongoing initiatives by security forces to mitigate criminal undertakings and obstruct the spread of insurgent-linked operations within the area.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, emphasizes his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all inhabitants.
“Members of the public are encouraged to stay alert and report any dubious activities to the nearest law enforcement agency,” the announcement expressed.
The police further noted that the suspect is presently in custody while a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the depth of his involvement and trace other individuals associated with the alleged scheme.
