Nigerian humorist and former Big Brother Naija contestant, DeeOne, has stirred controversy after asserting that a significant number of protests in Nigeria are driven by political agendas.
Discussing on Vanguard’s podcast on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, DeeOne asserted that “approximately 90 percent of protests in Nigeria are politically orchestrated,” contending that several demonstrations are swayed by influential entities rather than solely motivated by citizens’ grievances.
He pointed out that politicians frequently operate covertly by financing or supporting protest movements to advance particular agendas or undermine their adversaries.
He remarked that this phenomenon complicates the ability for Nigerians to distinctly discern authentic protests from those engineered for political advantage.
DeeOne stated, “There’s invariably an agenda behind most of them.”
His remarks have consequently sparked diverse reactions across social media, with some Nigerians backing his assertion.
However, a social media user @NaijaCitizenX countered, stating: “Claiming 90% of protests are funded is extreme. People are hungry, frustrated, and exhausted. Not everything is driven by politics.”
