Nigerian vocalist Temilade Openiyi, widely recognized as Tems, has shared her thoughts on matrimony, revealing that she believes marriage should be a pursuit for growth rather than solely based on emotions.
In a recent discussion with media figure Angie Martinez, the multiple Grammy recipient stated that she thinks marriage may face challenging moments and holds the view that individuals should enter into it with the understanding that it won’t always be smooth sailing.
Tems clarified that because of the unpredictable nature of marriage, she prefers a faith-driven partner since, as she believes, such a person will be responsible.
“My companion has to be a faith-driven individual. Because how could you truly care for me if you have no one to whom you are accountable? If you’re not answerable to anyone, how can you decide to love and continue loving me throughout our lives?
“If you are the master of your life, why would you cherish me forever? You might just cast me aside whenever you wish. However, marriage is designed to enhance you as a human being. It should. It should not revolve solely around affection; it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a partnership enriches you, like it transforms you. Because marriage is an entirely different realm, it’s expected to reveal the tough moments,” she expressed.
