Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has conveyed his readiness to step aside for Peter Obi if the former Anambra governor secures the presidential nomination of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in 2027.
In an interview on Arise News on Wednesday evening, Atiku was directly questioned about whether he would yield if Obi triumphs in the ADC presidential primary.
Atiku and Peter Obi are seen as the leading contenders for ADC’s presidential nomination.
Others, including Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi, are also considered to be in contention for the ADC nomination.
When asked if he would step aside for Obi, should the ex-Labour Party presidential candidate obtain the ADC nomination, Atiku replied, “Yes, I will step aside for any victor.”
When inquired if “any victor includes Peter Obi,” Atiku responded, “Certainly, if he is a competitor, why not?”
Further questioned if it would not pose a challenge for him to do so since Obi was his vice presidential partner, Atiku stated, “What is challenging there? It is democracy. You either proceed through consensus or through election. You emerge via consensus or arise through the electoral process.”
