An alarming clip circulating on social platforms has brought fresh focus to Nigeria’s escalating abduction crisis, as a young man known as John Arum Azi can be seen appealing for assistance following his kidnapping along the Kaduna route.
He stated that he was en route to Kaduna when he was seized along with six other individuals, raising the total number of victims to seven.
The video, reportedly uploaded on Facebook by one of his classmates, was allegedly shared using Azi’s own device after the kidnappers compelled him to record a message for his family and the public. In the footage, he seems clearly distressed as he pleads for monetary help to secure his freedom.
The captors initially requested a ransom of N30 million, threatening to terminate him when he informed them he could not afford the fee.
There is ongoing insecurity across various regions of northern Nigeria, especially in the North-West area, where ransom kidnappings have become prevalent.
Areas such as Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, and Kogi states continue to experience frequent abductions, with criminal organizations targeting travelers, rural areas, and students.
Despite repeated guarantees from security agencies that measures are being heightened to address the issue, incidents like this continue to spark worries among citizens regarding safety on major roadways.
At the time of submitting this report, authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Azi’s abduction, even as the victim remains in the grasp of his captors.
