
Personnel of the Ondo State Police Command have detained a 21-year-old male for purportedly assaulting and murdering an older woman, recognized as Veronica Anthony, in Iboropa-Akoko within the Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The accused, known as Anthony Alabi, was taken into custody following the tracking of the deceased’s mobile device by law enforcement officials.
As the event escalated tensions within the locality, security forces reportedly intervened to avert vigilante justice, as youths from the community had assembled to confront the young man.
According to the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, the suspect, who is presently in detention, admitted to the offense.
He stated, “Upon receiving reliable intelligence, detectives swiftly initiated an inquiry, which led to the tracking of the deceased’s stolen phone and the subsequent apprehension of the suspect.
“The matter has been referred to Headquarters, Akure, for additional thorough investigation and legal action.”
