The Nigerian Army stated it has transferred a significant number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) into Monguno town, where they are accommodated in temporary shelters.
Lieutenant Ayodeji Abiodun, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF, Monguno, in a declaration, mentioned that new facilities were erected within the town to host the IDPs.
“Following the establishment of the new facilities, numerous IDPs transitioned from the temporary shelters to the camps, except those from zones within the Marte direction who continue to stay in the temporary shelters in the town. They declined relocation to the new facilities,” it stated.
The announcement indicated that intelligence assessments uncovered that inhabitants of Gana Ali and Stadium IDP camps have been offering shelter for terrorist infiltrators when they execute assaults on military deployments in the region.
It additionally mentioned that the terrorists have rendered the Gana Ali and Stadium IDP camps unreachable to other inhabitants within the town and even to CJTF personnel in Monguno.
The CJTF operates in all areas of the town, except at GG, Gana Ali, and Stadium IDP camps, as their personnel previously assigned to guard those locations were eliminated by terrorists who breached the area.
