A member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State, Darlington Nnaoma Onyekacha, has urged Nigerian governors and State Houses of Assembly to guarantee that monthly fiscal allocations to their states are utilized appropriately, in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s instruction.
Onyekacha, while announcing his decision to run for the Abia State House of Assembly on Thursday in Ikwuano, lamented that numerous rural areas in Nigeria remain underdeveloped despite the substantial funds that states and local governments are receiving.
He expressed concern that poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and infrastructure deficits are alarmingly high in rural areas, emphasizing that this reality contrasts sharply with the sizable influx of funds into state and local government coffers.
In his view, the predicament is exacerbated by the purported negligence of State House of Assembly members in holding governors and local government officials responsible for the funds they receive from Abuja.
“Most of the issues that Nigeria faces today originate from the rural and state levels, not from the president.
“It’s not that the president is withholding the necessary resources to develop the states, but rather due to poor leadership within the state governments and the State Houses of Assembly,” Onyekacha stated.
He vowed to combat the underdevelopment of his Ikwuano constituency by serving as a steadfast advocate, ensuring that all funds allocated to his constituency are effectively used for community advancement.
