Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu in Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has rejected the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as a congregation of “desperate politicians” lacking a definitive national vision.
Onanuga made his remarks while responding to ADC leader Rauf Aregbesola’s critique of Tinubu’s administration during the party’s National Convention in Abuja on Tuesday.
NAIJATAB previously reported that the National Secretary of the ADC, Aregbesola, termed the APC-led government’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a “textbook scam”.
In response, in a post shared on his X account, Onanuga stated, “No, Rauf. The genuine frauds are the politicians within the SPV dubbed ADC.”
Onanuga accused Aregbesola of echoing opposition rhetoric and attempting to misrepresent the government’s achievements.
He noted, “At the event, Aregbesola allegedly urged his former superior, mentor, and patron to step down, echoing the opposition’s skewed narratives about the economy and fabricated reports of terrorist activities in certain regions of the country.”
He also condemned Aregbesola for what he referred to as a failure to introspect on his own period in public service.
“His eight years as the governor of Osun State were marked by unrelenting distress for the populace; civil servants went unpaid for extended periods, and pensioners experienced significant hardships.”
Commenting on Aregbesola’s tenure as Minister of Interior, Onanuga remarked, “During his four years, acquiring a Nigerian passport turned into a nightmarish ordeal, and there were numerous jailbreaks, including the notorious Kuje prison escape.”
He contended that it was “ironic” for Aregbesola to now address insecurity, stating, “For someone who failed disastrously to safeguard our correctional facilities, it is ironic that Aregbesola is now attempting to instruct others on matters of security.”
Defending the current government, Onanuga asserted: “The Tinubu administration has consistently acknowledged that policy reforms have led to unanticipated outcomes, but we have enacted various relief initiatives, including cash transfers and assistance for small enterprises.”
He further remarked that economic indicators have been improving under the reforms. “We have witnessed increased GDP, stronger foreign reserves, and a thriving stock market reflecting heightened investor confidence.”
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not a scam,” Onanuga maintained.
