“Crackdown in Niger: 14 Suspects Nabbed for Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, and Illegal Mining”



The Niger State Police Command has apprehended 14 individuals in relation to armed theft, illicit mining, abduction, and various other unlawful activities throughout different regions of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement, stating that the individuals were detained during distinct operations conducted by divisions in Tafa, Jebba, Gawu-Babangida, and additional locations based on credible intelligence.

In one of the incidents, he mentioned that four individuals were detained on March 14 at Hayin-Dikko in Gurara LGA for suspected criminal collusion, possession of an improvised firearm, and attempted armed theft.

The detainees were reportedly engaged in phone-snatching and various robberies near Dikko junction and the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

Additionally, the PRO announced that five individuals were apprehended in Jebba on March 17 following an armed robbery incident in Mokwa LGA, where a cattle trader was assaulted and deprived of ₦2.5 million.

One of the individuals was recognized by the victim, while the others allegedly admitted their involvement and sharing of the proceeds.

In another operation, he indicated that seven individuals were detained on March 22 for illegal mining and vandalism of government property at the Gurara Waterfalls. Police confiscated items such as water pump motors, shovels, pipes, and various excavation tools during the raid.

Abiodun mentioned that all the individuals have been charged or redirected for further inquiry, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to capture fleeing members of the criminal organizations.

He further reiterated the Command’s dedication to maintaining operations aimed at reducing crime across Niger State.
