
The Abia State Police Command has reported a total of 142 incidents of diverse criminal activities from January to April 2nd, 2026, resulting in the apprehension of 226 individuals.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, who made this announcement in his office on Thursday while addressing reporters, stated that many of the incidents were rigorously investigated and taken to court. He noted that some individuals were held in correctional facilities while others are facing legal proceedings.
He mentioned that the Command looked into 13 cases related to cult activities, arrested 23 individuals, and presented them in court, from which they were subsequently placed in correctional custody. He also indicated that 32 firearms were seized during these operations.
The Commissioner revealed that five cult-related cases are currently under investigation and stressed that these actions are part of the Command’s strict stance against cultism and its dedication to maintaining peace and security throughout the State.
He declared that the Command has rescued numerous trafficked or abducted children, confiscated 46 firearms of various types, 16 rounds of ammunition/cartridges, and dismantled criminal syndicates operating in the State.
“These continuous operational endeavors have greatly aided in the decrease of crimes such as armed robbery, abduction, homicide, sexual assault, child trafficking, unlawful firearm possession, theft, burglary, physical assault, property damage, advance fee fraud, among others,” CP Danladi Isa stated.
He further mentioned that stolen vehicles, auto-rickshaws (tricycles), and motorcycles were recovered during this timeframe, alongside the rescue of abducted individuals.
