“Abia Police Refute Viral Claims of Boko Haram Arrests: The Truth Unveiled”

The Abia State Police Command has declared that a viral assertion claiming 488 Boko Haram individuals were apprehended in the state is false.

The police cautioned the public against disseminating misleading information that might induce panic.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command clarified that the video circulating alongside the claim is outdated.

According to the police, it is an old transmission recorded over 11 years ago and does not represent the current conditions in Abia State.

The announcement was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

The police characterized the report as deceptive and maintained that it was designed to incite fear within the community.

The statement read, “As the primary internal security agency, the command assures citizens of its ongoing dedication to protecting lives and properties, urging individuals to continue their lawful activities without fear.”

The police also encouraged the public to assist their efforts by steering clear of false information and relying solely on verified news.

It continued, “The State Police desires the public’s cooperation in its security initiatives by dismissing misinformation and depending only on trustworthy and verified sources for news.”

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, cautioned individuals against propagating falsehoods, stating it could disrupt public tranquility and safety.

He further indicated that anyone found guilty of circulating false information would face arrest and prosecution under the law, including the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime Act.

The police advised residents to remain vigilant and collaborate to uphold peace by rejecting misinformation.
