Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, SAN, has informed students that simply having a university degree is no longer adequate to secure employment, emphasizing that innovation is now the primary catalyst for job opportunities.
Udeh conveyed this message over the weekend during a matriculation ceremony at Cosmopolitan University in Abuja, where he spoke to newly admitted students about the realities of today’s changing global job market.
According to him, depending exclusively on academic credentials is no longer enough, as graduates must adopt creativity and technological advancements to remain competitive.
“A graduate degree doesn’t necessarily guarantee a job anymore. What leads to ‘employment’ is innovation,” the minister stated.
He was represented at the occasion by the Director-General of the National Centre for Technology Management, Olushola Odusanya.
Udeh encouraged the students to leverage innovation and technology to create a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, characterized the matriculation ceremony as an important milestone for the newcomers entering the institution.
In his address, the Registrar, Mani Ibrahim Ahmad, disclosed that the university had obtained approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to launch new academic programmes.
