The Headquarters of 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia has responded to the circulating news, particularly on social media where an individual recognized as Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka Peter was reported to have been engaged in armed theft.
The individual was allegedly a soldier linked to the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State, as per the disseminated video.
However, in response to the news on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army firmly stated that every soldier possesses a unique number, noting that there was no unit under the 14 Brigade referred to by the apprehended individual during his questioning.
The Army’s statement, which was endorsed by Captain Mazinho Attah, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, denounced the actions of impersonation.
“Preliminary investigations and records indicate that the suspect is a deceitful criminal masquerading as a member of the Nigerian Army with the aim of committing unlawful acts.
“The Nigerian Army vehemently disapproves of such acts of impersonation and wrongdoing,” Captain Attah remarked.
He highlighted that the Nigerian Army upholds rigorous standards of conduct, professionalism, and accountability among its members, where any verified personnel found guilty of criminal behavior is subjected to due process in accordance with prevailing military regulations and laws.
He urged the general public to dismiss the assertions linking the suspect to the Nigerian Army.
He encouraged the public to report any suspicious individuals pretending to be military personnel to the nearest security authority for swift action.
