
Agents of the Oyo State Police Command have thwarted a roadway heist and apprehended a suspect during a security operation along the Ogbomoso Ilorin Expressway.
This information was revealed in a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka.
As per the police, the event transpired near Egbeda Village along the pathway when a combined patrol unit consisting of police officers and local vigilantes confronted alleged robbers who had reportedly obstructed the road.
The assailants were said to have halted a tanker transporting diesel, operated by Surajudeen Sulaiman, robbing the driver and his aides of their possessions.
According to the police, a gunfight ensued as the suspects made an attempt to escape, resulting in the capture of one of them, identified as Dere Yahaya, 32 years old, while other members of the gang fled into adjacent thickets with presumed gunshot wounds.
Subsequently, security agents commenced a search operation in the nearby vicinity as efforts persisted to locate the escaping suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, praised the prompt action of the agents and local security collaborators involved in the mission.
He also recognized the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in enhancing policing initiatives across the nation.
The police implored the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security authorities.
