85-Year-Old Sentenced to Jail for Shocking Crime in Kano



An 85-year-old individual, Malam Isah Abdullahi, has been sentenced by a High Court located in the Gwarzo Division of Kano State to 14 years of incarceration for sexual assault.

Following the effective prosecution in High Court No. 24, the conviction was attained by the Kano State Ministry of Justice.

A statement released by the ministry’s spokesperson, Najib Lawan Dambazau, indicated that the crime occurred on November 30, 2024, in Sauna, Gabasawa Local Government Area, adding that the prosecution provided adequate evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The presiding judge, Justice Aisha Mahmud, upon delivering the verdict, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in confinement, highlighting that the court had considered a request for leniency presented by the defence attorney prior to issuing the sentence.

The case was prosecuted by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Salisu Muhammad Tahir, along with members of his team.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, praised the prosecution team for achieving the conviction, labeling it as a reflection of the ministry’s dedication to justice.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of victims while ensuring that offenders of sexual crimes and other types of violence are held responsible.
