Kano Hisbah Disputes Claims of Local Government Chairman’s Arrest During Hotel Operation

Claims circulating on social media asserting that the Kano State Hisbah Board detained a local government chairman and an associate in a hotel have been characterized as untrue and deceptive.

The Director of Public Enlightenment of the board, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, clarified in a statement that the report was concocted to damage the reputation of the agency, Islam, and the inhabitants of Kano State.

The situation in question, the statement mentioned, involved a raid on Stephrica Guest Palace Ltd. in the Kureken Sani region of Kumbotso Local Government Area, following grievances from locals regarding purported immoral conduct at the venue.

Sheshe noted, “The operation, spearheaded by Chief Superintendent of Hisbah, Hafizu Garba Adakawa, led to the apprehension of 21 individuals, made up of 10 males and 11 females whose ages ranged from 15 to 35.”

He further mentioned that the hotel manager, Chijioke Nweke, a staff member, and the proprietor, Asuzu Jeffrey, were also taken into custody during the operation, adding that the suspects were later presented before Magistrate Court No. 5 in Gyadi-Gyadi.

The statement indicated that the court sentenced them to one year of incarceration or an alternative of a N100,000 fine, while mandating the closure of the hotel for functioning without proper authorization.

Fourteen of the offenders received three-month jail terms each or were provided the option of a N30,000 fine.
