The Aerial Division of Operation HADIN KAI has targeted terrorists’ stronghold in the Sambisa forest located in Borno state, eliminating numerous insurgents.
As per a counter-insurgency and security analyst in the Lake Chad area, Zagazola Makama, the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence pointing to increased insurgent activities around the Parisu region deep within the forest.
Makama noted that at approximately 9:00 p.m. on March 20, an aerial unit was dispatched to carry out an armed assessment and interdiction mission over the designated area.
It was noted that upon arrival, the platform established visual recognition of suspected Boko Haram militants maneuvering in a coordinated and strategic fashion.
The source underscored that additional surveillance revealed the insurgents gathering at a concealed location camouflaged by thick foliage.
Makama disclosed that while maintaining continuous observation, the aircrew monitored the movements to the hideout and executed a targeted strike.
The strike was performed with exceptional precision, demolishing the structure and neutralizing multiple terrorists present.
Battle Damage Evaluation, BDA, conducted following the strike indicated that several insurgents fled from nearby concealments in confusion, attempting to escape further into the forest.
“Continuing the pressure, the aerial platform pursued the retreating elements and conducted a subsequent strike on another identified hideaway.
“The second engagement further diminished the terrorists’ capabilities, obliterating additional targets and forcing the remaining fighters into a disordered withdrawal,” the source further stated.
