Previous Senate Leader, Bukola Saraki, has refuted assertions that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deceived him during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Saraki made this clarification while discussing on Politics Today, aired by Channels Television, observed by NAIJATAB.
Addressing inquiries about whether Tinubu was involved in the political and judicial obstacles he encountered while in office as Senate Leader, Saraki mentioned it would be unjust to hold the current president accountable.
As he noted, Tinubu lacked the degree of authority many assumed he possessed within Buhari’s administration and had no role in the decisions regarding the trials he underwent at that time.
“That’s not just towards President Tinubu. During former President Buhari’s presidency, Tinubu didn’t possess the influence they alleged he had,” Saraki remarked.
He clarified that the determinations leading to his prosecution at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the inquiries related to the Offa robbery case were not orchestrated by Tinubu.
Saraki added that while he was serving as Senate Leader, he prioritized what he perceived as beneficial for the nation, despite those actions resulting in political victimization later on.
“I was performing what I believed was in the nation’s best interest as the President of the Senate, and for undertaking those deeds, I was subsequently persecuted,” he stated.
He further emphasized that Tinubu was not among those who instigated or executed the actions that culminated in the Code of Conduct Bureau trial or other accusations filed against him during that timeframe.
