Former Senate Leader, Bukola Saraki, has rejected assertions that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed him during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
Saraki provided this clarification while discussing on Politics Today, on Channels Television, observed by NAIJATAB.
In response to inquiries about whether Tinubu had a part in the political and judicial struggles he encountered while serving as Senate Leader, Saraki stated it would be unjust to hold the current president responsible.
In his view, Tinubu did not possess the degree of influence that many assumed he wielded within Buhari’s administration and was not engaged in decisions related to the ordeals he endured at that time.
“That’s not just towards President Tinubu. During ex-President Buhari’s tenure, Tinubu didn’t have the clout they claimed he possessed,” Saraki remarked.
He clarified that the choices that led to his indictment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the probes associated with the Offa robbery incident were not influenced by Tinubu.
Saraki further noted that while he held the position of Senate Leader, he focused on what he deemed to be in the nation’s best interests, even if those actions eventually resulted in political victimization.
“I was undertaking what I believed was in the nation’s interest as the Senate President, and for performing those actions, I was then victimized,” he stated.
He additionally emphasized that Tinubu was not among those who initiated or executed the actions that culminated in the Code of Conduct Bureau trial or other accusations directed at him during that time.
