“Osun Government Welcomes Olanrewaju as New Akire of Ikire, Celebrates Rise of Fresh Monarchs!”

The Osun State Administration has sanctioned the selection of Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire land, the centre of Irewole local government council area of the state.

Prince Olanrewaju’s selection follows the passing of Oba Olatunde Falabi on February 27, 2026.

The resolution was made during a State Executive Council assembly convened in Osogbo, overseen by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

As per a declaration released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi on Friday, “the council considered a memo presented by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs prior to endorsing the recommendations.”

The declaration remarked that “the endorsement adhered to existing laws and the terms of agreement previously established by the five ruling houses of Ikire.”

It noted that “the Akire seat had been a matter of contention in 2021, arising from a Supreme Court ruling issued in 2014.”

The ruling had confirmed that the Lambeloye Ruling House, which produced the late king, possessed no legal claim to occupy the seat when a vacancy appeared in 1987.

After the turmoil, the state administration, in conjunction with the five ruling houses, agreed to revise the 1958 Akire Chieftaincy Declaration.

“The revision allowed for the Aketula Ruling House to present the next Akire when a vacancy arises,” the declaration stated.

The council also endorsed the selection of Tijani Feyi Ademola as the Aladodo of Adodo in Atakumosa East local government council area.

Likewise, Jacob Adetayo Haastrup was designated as the Olumobi of Imobi-Ijesa within the same local government area.

The council further approved the promotion of new Obas from the Ile-Ife Traditional Council, Osogbo Traditional Council, and Ijesha Traditional Council.
