“Stand Firm: Zamfara Government Declares No Deals with Bandits”



The Government of Zamfara State has reiterated its position against engaging in negotiations with bandits, committing to amplify efforts and embrace new tactics to address insecurity throughout the state.

Deputy Governor Mani Mumuni Masamar Mudi disclosed this during a condolence visit to Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area following a recent assault.

In a declaration made by his Chief Press Secretary, Shehu Adamu Gusau, the deputy governor expressed grief over the occurrence, which resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, while numerous others suffered injuries.

He praised the bravery of the inhabitants, mentioning that they fought back against the assailants and reportedly neutralised several of the bandits.

Mudi, on behalf of the state administration, conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the souls of the victims, as well as the swift recovery of the injured.

During the visit, the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, lauded the community for its defense and stated that the Assembly might contemplate legislation enabling communities to possess arms for self-protection within constitutional boundaries.

Additionally, the Chief Imam of Bunkasau, Malam Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the visit and mentioned that the community had faced numerous attacks but recently began to resist the aggressors.

He urged the government to offer further assistance to enhance local security.

The deputy governor was accompanied by various government officials, including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmad Garba Yandi, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mannir Fura Girke.
