The Nigerian administration, via the Nigerian Communications Satellite, NIGCOMSAT, Limited, has declared that Nigeria is swiftly progressing in its participation in the worldwide space economy.
Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen delivered this announcement during the Second Nigerian Satellite Week.
This occasion united industry pioneers and governmental entities in the nation’s capital, which, as per the Director General, reinforced Nigeria’s shared commitment to harnessing the prospects of space for national advancement.
Under the theme “Harnessing Space for an Extraordinary Nigeria,” Mrs. Egerton-Idehen underscored that Nigeria’s choice to invest in the space economy represents not merely a technological milestone but also an assertion of Nigeria’s preparedness to engage in and shape one of the most prominent sectors of the modern age.
“The international space economy is undergoing its most substantial transformation in decades, driven by the commercialization of Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the growth of satellite broadband, and the increasing recognition that space-based infrastructure is vital for national competitiveness,” she remarked.
“Nigeria has not been inactive during this transition. We have actively engaged, deliberately advancing the technical expertise, institutional frameworks, and innovation channels necessary to compete and excel.
“We are profoundly buoyed by the backing of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose approval of two additional satellites for NIGCOMSAT signifies a critical juncture for Nigeria’s space initiative and clearly illustrates the Federal Government’s dedication to sovereign satellite capabilities as a driver for national progress and economic competitiveness.
“As we aim to optimize the remaining operational life of NigComSat-1R and establish the groundwork for the future satellites, we do so with the confidence that arises from comprehending our journey and the strength derived from knowing we are not undertaking it in solitude.”
