
The Abia State Administration, on Thursday, conducted a State memorial service to honour the late Abia evangelist, Rev Uma Ukpai, who passed away at the age of 80 years.
During the occasion held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, Governor Alex Otti urged the citizens to lead a commendable life so they would be cherished in memory.
Governor Otti remarked that Papa Uma Ukpai did not pass away but merely transitioned, as his contributions would remain unforgettable.
He encouraged the people of Abia, Akwa Ibom, and the entire Christian community not to grieve but to live a life that is worth emulating.
Additionally, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who was represented by his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, characterised Rev Uma Ukpai as a visionary who nurtured a remarkable generation.
Earlier in his sermon, the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, stated that the late Uma Ukpai did not pursue wealth but dedicated his life to serving God and humanity.
The State memorial service drew numerous dignitaries, including Governor Doye Diri, former Presidential aspirant, Mr Peter Obi, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Mbata, among others.
