In preparation for the 2027 General Elections, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Africa, Sen. Ita Enang, has encouraged journalists nationwide to study and familiarize themselves with the stipulations of the Electoral Act.
He emphasized that such understanding would enable them to align their reporting with the requirements of the law.
Enang stated that every individual should have unrestricted access to the judiciary, mentioning that he would not hesitate to approach the courts if he believes certain clauses of the Electoral Act have been violated.
He issued this invitation over the weekend during the Launch of the Critique Magazine for the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, which was themed: ”From Insight To Action: The Role Of The Media In Shaping The Arise Agenda Legacy.”
Enang, who presided over the event, also noted that Akwa Ibom journalists possess the capability to foster democracy and influence the Arise Agenda legacy of Pastor Umo Eno’s administration through constructive journalism.
He expressed, “In your coverage of political matters and activities leading up to the 2027 electoral process, please first familiarize yourselves with the Electoral Act and its stipulations. Ensure your reports resonate with the provisions of the law and adhere to the electoral regulations of the land.”
He praised the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ for its contributions to the advancement of democracy in the State, remarking that Akwa Ibom has consistently developed its narrative, synchronizing the ARISE Agenda with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current federal administration.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of TopFaith University, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, urged journalists to align their reporting with the development-focused vision of the state government under Governor Umo Eno.
He further encouraged them to “deliberately engage with the ARISE Agenda through a resolute philosophical focus to enhance its profound implications, transforming it into a long-range development blueprint that will transcend the current administration of the state.
The Media Manager of Sumedha Energy Limited and Ibom Developers, Aniekeme Finbarr, in a goodwill message, characterized the media as collaborative partners in progress.
Earlier in his speech, the State Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Bassey Anthony, expressed gratitude to the attendees for their presence at the event, emphasizing that their participation highlighted the high esteem in which they hold the media.
