El-Rufai’s Mother Laid to Rest: A Journey Home to Abuja



The remains of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have reached Abuja prior to her interment.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026, following a short illness.

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the grandson of the deceased and a representative for Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, validated the arrival of the body and the funeral preparations in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday.

“This is to inform the general public that the remains of our grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, have arrived safely in Abuja,” he stated.

NAIJATAB previously reported that Bello declared that the Janazah (funeral) prayer for the late Hajiya Umma El-Rufai would be conducted at the National Mosque, Central Area, Abuja, at 1:00 pm.

He mentioned that the burial would occur immediately following the prayer at Gudu Cemetery in the Apo district of Abuja.

Messages of condolence have been flooding in since the announcement of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s demise, with numerous notable personalities visiting the El-Rufai family home on Saturday.

Those who came to pay their respects include the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
