Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to take resolute measures regarding the increasing incidents of attacks nationwide, emphasizing the need for the President to align his statements with tangible actions to safeguard citizens.
Atiku issued this appeal in a statement on Monday through his official X account, while responding to the recent assaults in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kaduna States.
He reminded the President of his previous promise that the attack in Angwan Rukuba, Plateau State, would not recur, voicing his alarm that another lethal occurrence transpired soon after the initial statement.
“I wish to remind President Bola Tinubu to uphold his assurances that ‘this (Angwan Rukuba attack) will not happen again.’ It seems those promises are empty, as just 72 hours later, a further assault in Benue State resulted in the loss of more than a dozen lives,” Atiku remarked.
The former Vice President also raised concerns about reports indicating that families in a Nasarawa community were compelled to evacuate their homes on foot due to threats of violence.
He additionally expressed his dismay over a recent incident in Kaduna State over the weekend, labeling the situation as alarming.
According to Atiku, the fundamental obligation of any administration is to ensure the safety of lives and property, along with the well-being of its people.
“The Commander-in-Chief should prepare to confront the challenges of governance. Enough of these empty words, Mr. President. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work,” he asserted.
Atiku also conveyed his condolences to families who suffered losses in the attacks.
“In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the families who may have lost loved ones in these assaults,” he remarked.
