“Ayra Starr Celebrates Nigerian Men: ‘They’re Confident and Unwaveringly Supportive’ Amidst Criticism”

Afrobeats artist, Ayra Starr has conveyed admiration and respect for Nigerian gentlemen.

During a recent episode of the Way Up with Angela Yee, Starr mentioned that Nigerian men are akin to New York men, supportive and exceedingly self-assured.

However, she pointed out that she still held some reservations about Nigerian men, emphasizing that “men are still men.”

She remarked, “Nigerian men cherish taking care of their women. They are incredibly supportive of their partners.

“They possess a great deal of confidence, making them quite similar to New York men. But you know, men are men. A man is still a man. It’s a universal concept.”

This comes months after Ayra Starr encountered significant criticism and backlash on social media primarily from Nigerian men, who contended that her online feminism advocacy doesn’t reflect her offline persona.

Her detractors asserted that her enthusiastic response to meeting Chris Brown and her dance clip to Naira Marley’s track did not correspond with her perceived feminist character.

She also previously faced scrutiny regarding her fashion choices.

Starr tackled the controversy surrounding her style, informing critics in 2023 that they are not her “pastor” or “mother.”
