
At least seven individuals have allegedly perished following an assault on Channel One, a border community in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.
The attack was reported to have transpired in the early hours of Monday, April 27, 2026, as per sources from the locality.
A community leader, Elder Joseph Anawa, verified the occurrence to reporters in Makurdi.
Anawa in a statement mentioned “I have learned that today, 27/4/2026, at around 13:00 hours indicates that suspected Fulani attackers have struck “Channel One”, a border community in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward, Logo LGA of Benue State, situated along Arufu-Wukari road, Taraba State.
“Six individuals were reportedly killed, including Mr. Akor Gwakyaa, Mr. Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, Msughter Terzungwe and another whose identity has not been disclosed.”
He further revealed that seven other inhabitants suffered serious injuries and are presently receiving medical care in various hospitals in Anyiin town.
Elaborating on the event, Anawa stated that a witness disclosed that “the assailants arrived in large groups, armed with weapons, and were on motorcycles. It is claimed that the attackers are those stationed at Shaor, one of the abandoned villages that multiple intelligence reports have indicated as a base for Fulani marauders in Logo LGA.
“It has also been reported that inhabitants of the region under assault and nearby communities are moving to other villages due to fears of additional attacks.”
The community leader urged officials to take swift action to avert a recurrence, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced security measures in the vicinity.
Anawa, who called upon the government and relevant authorities to promptly seek solutions to avert further assaults on innocent individuals in Logo LGA, stated “There is a need to intensify coordinated border clearance operations to dislodge the alleged marauders camped at Shaor and other identified abandoned villages from previous intelligence reports.
“There is additionally a necessity for joint inter-state security task forces involving Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States to oversee cross-border movements of suspected Fulani mercenaries and ideally, obstruct all pathways utilized by attackers to strike border communities within Logo LGA.”
He cautioned that the ongoing nature of such assaults, often associated with camps in forsaken settlements and cross-border activities, necessitates prompt and continuous intervention to restore safety and trust among residents in affected council wards.
In the meantime, the Chairman of Logo LGA, Clement Kav, also corroborated the incident, stating that seven individuals were killed while four others sustained injuries.
Kav mentioned, “They murdered seven individuals and injured four more. And as you know, their method involves coming, attacking, and retreating back to their origin.
He noted “They executed the assault late on Saturday/Sunday night. I have informed the Commissioner of Police and the Adviser, Homeland Security regarding the situation.”
When reached, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, stated she had yet to acquire details concerning the incident.
