
One individual has passed away due to the injuries he sustained during an assault by a feral elephant.
The event, as reported by sources, transpired on Thursday at Innayin community within the Oke Ogun geopolitical area of Oyo State.
It was revealed that a man named Ibrahim Tijani succumbed after being mauled by the elephant.
Sources indicated that another person known as Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin was also attacked by the same creature.
The remains of the first victim have been transported to a nearby healthcare facility.
Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, when reached, validated the incidents.
He mentioned that the command is actively probing the issue.
Ayanlade stated, “Upon receiving an emergency call, police personnel, alongside local vigilantes and hunters, quickly mobilized to the location.
“Upon arrival, the deceased body of one Ibrahim Tijani was found in a nearby thicket with wounds typical of an animal assault.
“His remains have been sent to the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for necessary medical evaluation and preservation.
“During ongoing search efforts, another person, known as Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was reported missing following an encounter with the same beast. Intensive attempts are currently in progress to locate him.
“The Command extends reassurance to residents of Innayin and surrounding areas that the situation is being diligently managed, and all essential measures are being implemented to avert further danger.
“The public is strongly advised to steer clear of the affected vicinity and promptly report any sightings of the animal to security agencies.”
