A High Court located in Maiduguri, Borno State, has condemned a 33-year-old female, Salamatu Saidu, to five years behind bars for crimes associated with human trafficking.
This information was revealed by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Thursday.
The presiding judge, Justice Bukar M. Umar, determined that the accused was guilty of the unlawful entry of individuals, in violation of Section 26(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
As reported by NAPTIP, the crime involved the illicit transportation of two victims, aged 21 and 33, through misleading tactics.
The agency noted that Saidu was brought to court on April 20, 2026, and convicted the very same day after the court confirmed her participation in the offense.
The court then sentenced her to a five-year term of imprisonment.
NAPTIP urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviors, as officials enhance their efforts to combat human trafficking in the nation.
