Renowned vocalist Omawumi has expressed her perspective on the prevalent assertion that contemporary romantic partnerships are transactional, contending that it has always been the case.
In a recent discussion with Pulse, the ‘Bottom Belle’ artist articulated that love is inherently transactional, yet acknowledged that it has now become more stringent than in the past.
Omawumi remarked that during her formative years, making an impression on a woman was relatively affordable, but in today’s world, it has become costly due to modernization and inflation.
“Love has perpetually been transactional. Women have consistently had high expectations since time immemorial. However, in my youth, the nature of our transactions was different because you could win over your crush with merely ice cream and popcorn. But nowadays, it’s an iPhone,” she noted.
The music sensation, however, remarked that society often magnifies the transactional aspect of relationships by overlooking the reciprocation from women.
She further mentioned that many men who lament the transactional characteristics of relationships place themselves in that situation by pursuing women with elevated standards.
