“Secrets of Fela’s Household: Seun Kuti Reveals His Mother’s Affairs”

Innovative musician, Seun Kuti has asserted that his father, the deceased Afrobeat trailblazer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, did not prohibit his spouses from engaging in relationships with other men.

He additionally asserted that this was one of Fela’s most significant errors, claiming that some of the women eventually contracted HIV from their external partners and transmitted it to the late musician.

During a recent Instagram livestream, Kuti remarked that contrary to the rumors suggesting that Fela was the source of the disease for his women, he was, in fact, the one who suffered.

He stated, “Fela made numerous errors. One of the errors he made – one day, I came across a video of a woman online questioning why individuals were praising Fela’s legacy while he supposedly infected women with HIV and succumbed to AIDS.

“I thought, ‘Oh, Fela, do you see yourself?’ If Fela had been a conventional man, he would still be among us. I will share something about him that you may not have known; Fela’s women all had other partners.

“Fela did not confine his women to himself. He believed that just as he was free to engage with all the women, the women were also entitled to interact with other men. His rule was that they shouldn’t bring the men to his residence.

“My father didn’t leave his home to sleep with other women outside, so it was his partners who brought HIV back to him. Nobody is flawless. Everyone makes errors. But Fela is a man that stands for humanity.”

NAIJATAB recalls that Fela made news when he wed 27 women in a single traditional ceremony on February 20, 1978, in Lagos.
