The prevailing conflict between the customary institution in Ibadanland and the Oyo State administration led by Seyi Makinde has intensified, as reported by NAIJATAB.
The dispute escalated on Thursday when the three High Chiefs scheduled for elevation to Obas declared they would be absent from the occasion.
High Chief Kola Babalola, the Ekaarun Olubadan, High Chief Akeem Bolaji Adewoyin, Ekerin Balogun, and High Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Ekaarun Balogun were set for promotion to Obas. The coronation had been arranged for Friday.
NAIJATAB learned that both the traditional authority in Ibadan, which includes the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, members of the Olubadan-in-Council, and the Oyo State government under Makinde are currently in disagreement over the plans by the state to elevate the concerned High Chiefs to Obas.
A few days ago, the Oyo State government requested the Olubadan to submit the list of individuals ready for promotion for appropriate arrangements.
Palace sources informed NAIJATAB that the Olubadan requested additional time to provide the list to the government.
Shortly after, the state government announced the names of those slated for elevation without awaiting the Olubadan’s list.
Our correspondent also discovered that traditional chiefs, leaders, and notable indigenes of Ibadanland have decided to boycott the event.
The Media Assistant to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, who confirmed that the three individuals slated for promotion would not participate in the program, stated they had notified the Olubadan of their unavailability.
He added that the state government has been made aware of their absence. However, he maintained that there is no feud between the Olubadan and the State Governor.
Oloko in a statement remarked, “To clarify, the three High Chiefs due for coronation have officially informed the Olubadan of their non-attendance and have, consequently, requested a postponement.”
