With the return of tranquility and relative harmony following the Palm Sunday night assault in the Gari Yawaye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, the authorities have declared the easing of the 48-hour curfew that had been enforced on the council.
The state authorities had imposed a two-day curfew which limited movement and commercial activities throughout the LGA after the attack by assailants that resulted in the deaths of over 30 residents, while numerous others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
In a statement announcing the easing of the curfew, released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government indicated that the decision was made after security evaluations showed an enhancement in the situation.
Ramnap indicated that the relaxation of the curfew will commence from Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with movement authorized between 7am and 3pm daily, and urged residents to utilize the designated time frame to conduct their lawful activities while strictly observing security protocols.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance for citizens and residents of the state to stay alert, remain composed, and compliant as security agencies continue their watch and patrols to avert any breakdown of law and order.
“The Plateau State government under His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has assured citizens that measures are underway to reinforce peace and avert further disturbances in the region.
“The government also praises residents for their perseverance and collaboration during the period of restrictions,” Ramnap stated, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to protecting lives and property across the State.
