“Midnight Clash: Borno Troops Defend Against ISWAP Assault”

Forces of Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted a premeditated assault by alleged ISWAP/JAS militants in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State during a nocturnal firefight.

In a statement from security expert Zagazola Makama, security insiders reported that the assault transpired around 1:40 am on March 28, 2026, at Ajilari Cross, when the insurgents executed a dual-pronged offensive against troops set in ambush as part of ongoing “mass ambush” operational directives.

The insiders informed Makama that the militants sought to overwhelm the troops’ position but faced staunch resistance.

“Throughout the confrontation, the militants attacked from two fronts in a synchronized manner, but the troops maintained their position and engaged them effectively,” one insider stated.

He further mentioned that during the exchange of gunfire, the insurgents ignited two military platforms.

The insider additionally revealed that a Quick Reaction Force, QRF, from the Battalion Headquarters, spearheaded by the Commanding Officer, rapidly mobilized to the location alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, and elite Squad operatives.

“The reinforcement unit arrived swiftly, confronted the militants, and successfully diminished the attack,” he remarked.

According to him, following the thwarting of the attack, troops initiated an exploitation operation beyond the engagement zone to pursue escaping insurgents and hinder regrouping.

The insider emphasized that the military remains dedicated to ongoing offensive and defensive maneuvers aimed at undermining terrorist capacities throughout the North-East region.

He also commended the alliance between troops and local support factions, noting that it continues to bolster operational efficiency.
