“National Convention: Obono-Obla Voices Deep Concerns Over APC’s Future”

A previous presidential aide, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has expressed his disillusionment with the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the party’s national convention.

Obono-Obla made this revelation in a statement titled, ‘Reflections on My Party Journey’, which he released in Calabar.

The former chair of the Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property under Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari had publicly announced his ambition to contest for the position of National Secretary of the APC but was informed that the existing zoning arrangement remained intact, resulting in the incumbent being reinstated.

Subsequently, Obono-Obla expressed his desire to contest for the role of National Publicity Secretary. However, once again he was refused.

In response to the results of the national convention, he noted: “My trust in the Party to which I have devoted myself since 2013 is now severely shaken, more than ever before.

“In 2022, the Party prohibited me from running as a Senatorial Candidate, but I accepted it. I continued to labor diligently for its triumph in both the National and State Elections in 2023.

“Day after day, I committed myself to promoting, endorsing, and defending the Party and its administration across social, traditional, and new media platforms. Yet, as I contemplate my next steps, it appears that a few individuals who have only recently joined the Party are diligently working to oust foundational members—regrettably, with the backing of the leadership.”

He remarked that the circumstance demands profound contemplation as his dedication, however, remains unquestionable, but the road ahead must be navigated with clarity and bravery.

He observed with a hint of frustration that the struggle for importance and acknowledgment within the party persists.

Nonetheless, he reaffirmed that his determination to uphold his personal values remains steadfast.
