Kano Hisbah Refutes Claims of Local Government Chairman’s Arrest During Hotel Raid

Claims circulating on social networks alleging that the Kano State Hisbah Board apprehended a local government chairman and an accomplice in a hotel have been labeled as untrue and deceptive.

The Director of Public Enlightenment for the board, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, clarified in a statement that the allegation was concocted to damage the reputation of the agency, Islam, and the citizens of Kano State.

The event in question, according to the statement, involved a raid on Stephrica Guest Palace Ltd. located in the Kureken Sani region of Kumbotso Local Government Area, prompted by complaints from residents regarding purported immoral activities at the establishment.

Sheshe stated, “The operation, spearheaded by Chief Superintendent of Hisbah, Hafizu Garba Adakawa, resulted in the detention of 21 individuals, including 10 males and 11 females aged between 15 and 35.”

He further noted that the hotel manager, Chijioke Nweke, a staff member, and the owner, Asuzu Jeffrey, were also taken into custody during the operation, mentioning that the suspects were later presented before Magistrate Court No. 5 in Gyadi-Gyadi.

The statement indicated that the court sentenced them to one year’s incarceration or a choice of a N100,000 fine, while mandating the closure of the hotel for functioning without proper authorization.

Fourteen of the violators received three-month prison sentences each or were provided with the alternative of a N30,000 fine.
